Virtual Reality (VR) is a fully immersive computer simulated environment that gives a user the perception and feeling of being in that environment instead of the one they are actually in. This technology has unprecedented capabilities with numerous potential applications.
As well as generating indirect light maps for UV-parameterised geometry, Enlighten can compute Spherical Harmonic probes to capture indirect lighting at arbitrary points in space. However we don’t use the standard definition of the SH basis functions, largely because they require you to sprinkle your code with many weird “magic numbers” which obfuscate what’s actually going on.
The Photons demo is an immersive graphics experience that shows a glimpse of what is possible with Enlighten’s dynamic global illumination technology and an alternative player input – in this case an infrared (IR) capture of the player’s hand using the Leap Motion controller.
