OVERWHELMING RECEPTION FOR BF3

Lighting and graphics singled out for praise

Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 was launched in October 2011, after heavy publicity and fan anticipation. BF3 is built on DICE's Frostbite 2 engine, viewed by some as the most powerful game engine available today.

As one of the first titles to make use of Enlighten, we were very excited to see what the response from critics and fans would be like. We were not to be dissappointed!

"Once players step out of that troop carrier and see the sun shining in their eyes like never before - once they see the light - they'll understand what a special game Battlefield 3 is " wrote Gamespy, adding "I've personally never seen a game that can render such massive environments with so much detail, yet lit by the most realistic lighting ever included in a game."

The Guardian wrote that "Visually the game is a marvel of beautiful lighting effects and spectacular locations" and Destructoid described the game as "jaw-droppingly beautiful".

Battlefield 3 has gone on to become EA's fastest selling game of all time and is approaching 15million players. It has picked up multiple awards, including 3 BAFTAs. One of these was the publicly-chosen 2011 GAME of the year.

VIDEOS

YouTube has been inundated with videos from Battlefield 3. Here are some of our favourites:

  • Rain. Its basically 6 minutes of shots of BF3 maps in the rain. Absolutely stunning!
  • Close quaters. Indoor fighting with even greater levels of destruction.
  • Jay Z trailer. We've all seen it, but it still looks great!
  • Finally, if you have not seen it already, check out what Channel 5's Gadget Show did to create a totally immersive experience!
